Musaafer from the Dubai-based Spice Route Co. restaurant group has opened at 5115 Westheimer Rd. on the first floor of The Galleria’s luxury wing. It joins neighbors Nobu, Fig & Olive and Blanco’s Taco + Tequila Bar in Galleria VI. Mithu and Shammi Malik, the husband-wife duo behind Spice Route Co., boasted from the beginning that this restaurant would be like no other. For their first venture in the United States, the couple moved to Houston after completing their 100-day journey through 29 states in India; gathering stories and experiences along the way and bringing home age old regional recipes, which have been translated into their eclectic menu.
Upon entering Musaafer, the magical journey begins. Visitors walk down a winding staircase leading to the foyer, filled with artwork, antique rugs and a ceiling adorned with handcrafted lampshades. Every aspect of the interiors was sourced from India where craftsman replicated colonial and pre-colonial India motifs and created new world designs.
The kitchen will serve traditional and modern plates of fare with unique flavors and presentations from India’s 29 states. Guests can choose options from the tapas program, an a la carte menu and a curated tasting menu.
“There are so many interpretations of Indian cuisine. At Musaafer, the intention is to showcase our homeland in a manner that authentically honors the country’s culinary diversity,”
—Owner Mithu
Waterman Steele Real Estate partner Emily Durham and Vice President Adrian Ramirez were proud to have represented Musaafer in their first foray in the U.S.
